Let's Elope: The Definitive Guide to Eloping, Destination Weddings, and Other Creative Wedding Options
by Lynn Beahan and Scott Shaw - Our Price: $10.36
By Alison: This is still my favorite because it's up to date and has lots of information about the locations covered in the book. At least for the locations that are covered, it's a very good resource. It also gives some information about where to look for information about other wedding destinations. The authors now have a website (www.letselope.com) which promises to have even more info in the future.

Picture-Perfect Worry-Free Weddings: 72 Destinations and Venues
by Diane Warner - Our Price: $10.39
By Alison: I was a bit disappointed in this book although it does have some very useful information and resources. It's done in the form of "case histories". For each wedding it describes how the couple met, how they got engaged, and how they planned their wedding. It some cases it is a little hard to take away any specifically useful information from the stories.
She does have some specifics about things to consider for the kinds of weddings covered in the book -- venue weddings, destination weddings, informal weddings, and do-it-yourself weddings. There are lots of suggestions about interesting places to consider and unusual wedding themes and a list of wedding coordinators in the last chapter so that you might find one in the place you've decided on. Again it's probably a good book for someone just trying to sort out a bunch of options but probably not enough had information if you're already well into the process.

Far and Away Weddings: Secrets to a Long-Distance Wedding
by Denise Fields and Alan Fields - out of print - purchase from Half.com
By Alison: If you want the out of print Far & Away Weddings book, try Half.com, the online used books seller. It's listed there for as low as $1.24.
I bought this book when we first got engaged, but I sold it back shortly afterwards. It was not the right book for me since we're planning more of an elopement than a traditional wedding. The book is best for someone trying to get most of the trappings of a traditional wedding at a distant location. It doesn't have much information on specific locations. It's more about handling logistics like ordering your cake from afar and getting your dress to the wedding in one piece.

Weddings For Dummies®
by Marcy Blum and Laura Fisher Kaiser - Our Price: $17.59
By Tara: Truly the best book I read was "Weddings for Dummies". I know people are always making fun of the "Dummies" series of books, but honestly, I literraly sat down and read half this book in one day and the other half the next. It was so easy to read and understand. And it was SO USEFUL. I went back and re-read every section when I was planning that particular part. There were two authors, one was a very prominent NY wedding planner and the other was a girl who was actually planning her destination wedding while she was writing the book. VERY HANDY. VERY EASY TO READ. TWO THUMBS UP!
By Angela: That book was a life saver taking me step by step through wedding plans. There are a lot of good ideas we used.

Bridal Bargains: Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget
by Denise and Alan Fields - Our Price: $11.96
By Robyn: The 1995 edition of this book (the 2000 edition is pictured at left) was the one and only wedding planning book that I bought for our own wedding. We were married in 1996, and at that time, destination wedding information was pretty much non-existant. However, I recommend this book because of it's great cost-cutting advice. This book is largely responsible for our decision to scrap the big "church dream wedding" my family had in mind -- and take off with close friends and family for the wedding of our dreams. This book consistantly receives 5-star ratings on Amazon, and I believe that's for a reason.

Weddings for Grownups: Everything You Need to Know to Plan Your Wedding Your Way
by Carroll Stoner - Our Price: $14.36
By Alison: This is not specifically about destination weddings or elopement, but it's a good book if you just want some general reassurance that there's nothing wrong with not doing everything in your wedding according to what the bridal magazines tell you. It's not a real "how-to" kinda book, so you'll have to look elsewhere for resources on how to pull off the weddding that you really want, but it's probably a good book for someone just thinking about what kind of wedding they want to have.
