On the 15th of each month we feature a new and magnificent wedding! This is more than just a weekly "best site" contest with a link to the couple's wed-site. We will take you through the entire wedding process...from the planning, to the actual event, and everything in between...including details which made each big day special.

There were bells on the hill... Holly and Scott met when she had a job in technical support. He called her with questions of a most challenging nature, which gave Holly opportunities to call and chat with him. They got along quite well and often flirted. Eventually, Scott showed his true intent by asking if Holly's last name was a "married" name as a pick-up line. When she said "no" and offered her phone number, he called that very night!
But I never heard them ringing... Scott and Holly talked about the proposal and she had a hunch he would propose a few minutes before midnight on December 31, 1999 - which also happened to be Holly's 25th birthday. They celebrated her birthday with a trip to Port Townsend, WA. They had dinner at a restaurant with a Brazilian band on hand for the millennium celebration. As the time drew near for the proposal, the band started to get louder and rowdier. Fifteen minutes before midnight they started jamming at an incredible decibel level and asked everyone to get up and dance in the aisles. When the smoke cleared and they went on break, the clock showed 12:10! Oops!
The next day the couple went for a walk on the beach at Fort Worden before heading home. Before Holly realized what was happening, Scott was on bended knee and she tearfully replied “yes”!
No I never heard them at all... Holly and Scott started planning to get married in October 1999. They joked about dates one day and Scott picked September 9th, thinking 9/9 had a nice ring to it. That date turned out to be a Saturday! Then when Holly called to pick dates for the church and ballroom in that timeframe, the only date both locations were available was 9/9 -- it truly was fate! In addition to date selection they also had Holly's engagement ring custom made. They shopped together to find a good setting, as Holly desperately wanted to use her maternal grandmother’s diamond in the ring.
Holly wore a bridal gown styled by Sweetheart. It was an A-line style featuring an empire waist with princess seaming to accentuate the waistline. It had a square neckline and short sleeves. The gown was embellished on the bodice, train and hem with lace appliqués encrusted with mini pearls and sequins. The bride's favorite part - aside from the sparklies - was the cathedral length, detachable train. Once removed, it left a floor-length dress perfect for dancing the night away! Holly also wore a two-tier waist long veil attached to a beaded headpiece, which complemented the beading on the dress beautifully. As the something borrowed, the bride wore her mother’s heart locket. Holly's father had given her mother the locket as a wedding gift when they were married in 1972. The couple noted this in their program, which featured a drawing of the church on the front.
Holly and Scott were married on September 9, 2000, in a historic Episcopal church built in 1870. The ceremony began at 4:30 and they were pronounced husband and wife at 4:55. Holly got so choked up during her vows, when she finished they were able to hug before continuing. Then, they were presented before kissing, so Scott had to ask Father Ernie for permission to kiss his wife. He happily obliged!
The newlyweds held their reception at the Trident Ballroom on the Bangor, WA, Naval Submarine Base. Fresh flowers, mirrored tiles, and hurricane lamps adorned the tables. Other details included balloons and a huge sign congratulating the couple. The grand piano displayed photos of Holly and Scott as they grew up and began their lives together. They had a 3-tier wedding cake decorated to resemble the bride's parents' wedding cake. The groom’s cake was a round, very tasty, carrot cake accented with fresh flowers.
'Til there was you... The couple wanted to be different for their first dance and ended up getting free lessons from a close friend. They did a loose interpretation of the rumba to ‘When You Say Nothing At All’ by Allison Krause. When they first dated, Holly heard the song while they were driving together. She knew at that moment it would be their song. Their dance was one of the most tender moments of the entire reception.
Lastly, Holly loved the wedding day flowers she chose. The colors were just how she wanted, and the arrangements were very fragrant. Never being one for white on white - and with their wedding colors being navy, mauve and silver - the bride selected flowers that were quite colorful. Mauve roses and mini calla lilies were paired with stephanotis, blue delphinium and white mums. The bouquet then featured two white pearl hearts. The mother of the bride also had similar details and mums in her own wedding bouquet.
