On the 15th of each month we feature a new and magnificent wedding! This is more than just a weekly "best site" contest with a link to the couple's wed-site. We will take you through the entire wedding process...from the planning, to the actual event, and everything in between...including every detail which made each big day special, as told by the newlyweds.

At last my love has come along...
Kisha describes the happy couple and how they met: "I'm a 32-year old makeup artist from NYC, David is a 35-year old iron worker, also from NYC. We met 11 years ago while we were both working at a movie theater in the east village where I grew up. It was my first day on the job and he was a supervisor stopping by the on his day off. He introduced himself to me and from there something just clicked."

My lonely days are over...
Kisha describes their engagement: "We actually became 'unofficially' engaged in 2000. I always knew he'd be the one I would marry, but I'm not sure he knew that! By the time 2000 rolled around, we had both pretty much decided that we should do it. We started wedding planning and with my mom having passed on, I didn't have anyone that could really point me in the right direction. Unfortunately, that's when I met a 'wedding planner' who said she would help me and take care of everything. Instead she ran off with the bulk of our wedding money and we were back at square one. The stress and strain of that almost caused us to part ways, but somehow we stuck it out.

Having been humiliated and hurt, with the wedding being called off just days before it was to happen, I didn't really want to talk about weddings anymore and for a long time I didn't. I guess part of me blamed him for not being there to help me. By the beginning of 2003, we decided that we had grown up a lot and wanted to seriously take the next step, so we started planning again.

With all the wedding costs and the fact that I have a daughter from a previous relationship, I didn't think we'd be able to really afford a ring. So I put it out of my mind. But then David surprised me. He took me to a jewelry shop and we looked at different rings and there was one in particular that really caught my eye...and without a minute of hesitation, he bought it for me and proposed on the spot. I was really thrilled because I didn't expect a ring, but that's just one of many great things about him."

And life is like a song ...
The bride discusses their 'big day': "We had a very small wedding and reception at a catering hall in queen's NY. Our hall was decorated with large balloon bouquets bearing our colors and weighted with large gift boxes that contained scented candle, so they were favors as well. I decided to be very hands on with our wedding because I felt a personalized touch made things more special and a part of us. So I started with the favors. I decided on CDs with music from and inspired by our wedding and relationship. So I burned, all of the CDs myself and created a CD label from an example I saw. But I personalized it by adding what was to be our theme. A silhouette of a wedding couple that reminded me of us. We also had wedding bubbles that were labeled with our names, date and that silhouette. I made chocolate kiss spoons with ribbon and tulle, as well as capias. I had someone print wedding invitations with wording that we really liked and the RSVP had the silhouette on the cover. Feeling crafty, I later decorated our wedding arch, made the silk bouquets for the attendants, the corsages, our caketop and our dais table centerpiece.

Having done so much myself not only saved money, but it really made us feel like the wedding was truly about us.

Although the wedding started late due to traffic, the ceremony was a happy one. I walked down the aisle to Con Te Partiro by Andrea Bocelli. A song that means a lot to us. Our officiant did a really good job. We offered a reading for our mothers and grandmothers who have passed on and knowing that they were there with us in spirit made the ceremony even more special.

We ended up having fewer guests than expected, but we didn't let that put a damper on our big day. We danced, played with the children, reminisced with our relatives and basked in the glow of a day that was almost 11 years in the making. One of the most special moments of the night, was when our DJ played One Sweet Day by Mariah Carey, in honor of our mothers and grandmothers. It brought tears to all of our eyes and reminded me of just how lucky we all were to be there together."

I found a dream, that I could speak to...
Kisha describes their wedding attire: "We decided to go with burgundy, white and a touch of pink. We had one maid of honor and one best man. We felt that we didn't really need anymore. The maid of honor wore a burgundy sheath gown with a draped neckline. The flowergirl (our daughter) wore a long, white gown with rhinestones, spaghetti straps and a semi open back. I had a matching wrap custom made for her with tulle and rhinestones.

My husband wore a three button Karl Kani tuxedo, with gorgeous Giorgio Bruttini shoes. The best man wore a traditional black one button tuxedo. Our ring bearer wore a traditional dark suit and all of the men wore burgundy ties and cummerbunds.

Last but not least, I wore a white halter gown, in an A-line silhouette, with a small train. My shoes were the Kimberly style, by Touch-Ups with a pearl and Swarovski crystal design added by my seamstress. I wore a gorgeous, super sparkly tiara with a 2-tier veil, adorned with pearls and rhinestones that I made myself. My earrings were a rhinestone cluster with drop pearl design."

A dream that I can call my own...
When asked if there was anything they would do differently, the bride replied: "Well we actually are doing it over! We plan to renew our vows on our first anniversary by having a church wedding. We look forward to getting married in the house of God. Some of the main things I would change would be the location and type of reception hall we'd use, our guestlist, and our limo company."

When asked what they would do the same: "If I could, I would bottle up the feeling of our first dance together as husband and wife. It was the best moment because we danced to At Last by Etta James and after 10 years, every word was true. We had our daughter join us and it made everything complete."

I found a thrill to press my cheek to...a thrill that I have never known...
To sum up what made their wedding day special, Kisha answered: "The most special thing about our wedding was that it was a complete reflection of us. We planned everything ourselves from the invitation wording, to the music, to the decorations. We did things according to our tastes as a couple and that to me, is what makes a wedding unique! "
