Do you remember when we met...
Kathryn describes how she met Christopher: "One September day in 2000, Christopher had a visitor. It was his old friend Barron, now in the US Army, stationed in Germany. They went to go visit their friend George and his family. They were catching up on old times, when a girl came into the house. It was the family's roommate, Kathryn. Kathryn had just had a VERY bad day at work. Her hair and makeup was a mess, and she looked a fright. She walked into her home, and saw two men she had never seen before standing in the living room. She thought the one with dark hair and blue eyes was very handsome. But she was very self-conscious of how she looked, so just saying hello, she quickly excused herself to the couch and pretended to take a nap. She remained aware of the conversation, but played possum until Christopher and Barron left.
For the next few weeks, Kathryn couldn't stop pestering her roommates about Christopher. They thought it was funny the way Kathryn carried on and on about how cute Chris was. George proceeded to tell Chris all about it. Chris, on the other hand, was confused. This Kathryn character showed no interest in him whatsoever when he was there, and now George is telling him this? He didn't believe George at first. Then, after thinking about it, he decided to call George out on it. The family was moving into a larger abode, so Chris decided to make himself available for unpacking. Suddenly, Christopher found himself making excuses to come visit Kathryn. One week later, the two were dating. Five weeks after that, they were talking marriage."
That's the day I knew you were my pet...
Kathryn describes their engagement: "Even though there wasn't an actual proposal, it was agreed that they needed to plan for a wedding. It worked out nicely, because when they went out looking for rings, Chris got to see exactly what Kat liked.
On President's Day, 2002, Christopher got down on both knees with the ring, and said, 'This is long overdue. Kathryn, will you be my wife?' Kat said yes and proceeded to have a giggle fit. They've been by each other's side ever since, and Kat still gets the giggles about it to this day!"
I want to tell you how much I love you...
The bride discusses their 'big day': "Well, every gal feels special on her wedding day, as she ought to! I honestly believe that there is no such thing as a bride who is not beautiful. A bride has such a glow to her that she is most radiant than she normally is. My radiance can be the fact that I married the man of my dreams. Another part of it could've been the sunless tanner.
Chris and I decided to be wed outside. I fell in love with a cute little gazebo at a local county park, and some friends of ours were married there a few years back. Even though God is an immense part of our lives, I didn't want to be married in a church. To me, outdoor weddings just seem more fun, and that was how we wanted our wedding to be remembered as. We also made it more whimsical by having Pepe Le Pew and Penelope on the invitations, in the programs and even on the cake top. Being a proud Star Wars geek, I walked down the aisle to Princess Leia's Theme and our recessional was the Throne Room - End Title from the Star Wars Soundtrack. We are just a couple of kids at heart, so we wanted our big day to be fun!
Our flowers were made from velvet and sheer rayon with beads and glitter trim. Our cake was three layers of white, chocolate, and red velvet -- which the Best Man referred to as Count Dracula Cake -- with butter cream filling and frosting. We danced our first dance to Sea Of Love by The Honeydrippers. Since my father was a big inspiration for turning me on to music from the Big Band era, he was tickled when I requested Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade as our dance. Chris danced with his mother during this song as well."
Come with me, my love...
Kathryn describes their wedding attire: "The bride wore a dress by Zurc for Impression Bridal. It's a 2-piece gown. The top is a strapless lace-up corset, and the ballroom-length skirt has a cathedral train. There is no lace or beading on this dress. However, there is eye-catching red trim on the top that runs down the length of the dress asymmetrically, with gold and silver embroidered roses and leaves in the trim. The tiara consists of gilded leaves and crystal and rhinestone roses, with 5 garnets to continue the red theme. The veil was a $40 window scarf that shimmers in the light. Her seamstress sewed it on a comb, so Kat was able to take it off and put it on at her leisure.
Christopher and the groomsmen wore black tuxes and shoes. The fathers wore black ties and vests, the groomsmen wore red, and Chris and the ring bearer Kyle wore ivory.
The bridesmaids wore whatever their hearts wanted as long as it came from David's Bridal and it was in 'apple red'. Ironically enough, the two honor attendants unknowingly chose the same dress (Kristin lives in Florida and Janine lives in Indiana!).
I'm glad we did it this way. Everyone liked what they bought, it was economical, and everyone was happy. That doesn't happen too often with attendant's dresses."
To the sea, the sea of love...
When asked if there was anything she would do differently, Kathryn replied: "Since hindsight is always 20/20, I would tell my one of my bridesmaid's husband's to drive more carefully. My bridesmaid Colleen and her husband Tony were in an automobile mishap while on their way to the rehearsal. They were ok, but horribly shaken and couldn't be in the wedding the next day. I spent most of the rehearsal angry at the world and worried sick over them.
I would have delegated more duties to my sister, who was my maid of honor, as soon as she arrived from Florida. My other bridesmaids were unable to help much (one was in a leg cast, one lived an hour away, and the other two were minors still in school). I was convinced that if I didn't do a project, then it wouldn't get done. Kristin had to yell at me to snap out of it and have her help me!
I would have given my cousin more details when making my cake. The pictures give my cake no justice. It was the best-tasting cake I have ever had. However, I gave her no instruction on what I wanted it to look like. I just said, 'Make it 3 layers and have ribbons coming out of the top.' She had no idea how to design it, so I really wasn't any help to her. It was pretty, but too simple, and that was all my fault."
When asked what she would do the same: "I made sure that the gusts were comfortable at the ceremony. Since it was in the low 80s, we had an ice cooler filled with little bottles of water and paper fans in the shape of hearts. It kept everyone cool, and we were constantly complimented on how thoughtful we were with the water bottles."
I want to tell you, oh how much I love you...
To sum up their wedding day the bride answered: "I guess just having family and friends around us made it special as well!"
